2002 SSWCŇ

RULES

These Rules supersede all previous SSWC Rules

 

NO RADIOS

 

NO ELECTRONIC TRACTON CONTROL DEVICES ALLOWED

 

ANY ENGINE, CHASSIS, BODY COMBINATION PERMITTED

 

BODY

1.            The Following Bodies will be permitted.

 

a.                   Any American manufactured, OEM steel production passenger car Body.

b.                  Performance or Five Star Stock Appearing Racing bodies, Fiberglass Roofs are allowed.

c.                   Fabricated Stock Appearing Bodies

 

            2.        All Bodies must meet the following criteria.

a.         OEM or Aftermarket stock type nosepieces that match the body or No nosepiece at all.

b.         Body type does not have to match chassis. (Any Body and Chassis combination allowed). Ford  & GM, Mopar & GM, Ford & Mopar, Ect. 

c.         Maximum body width of any body is 75”.

d.         No wedge Bodies or wedge Front Ends allowed.

f.          Sub-Compacts I.E.: Pinto, Vega, etc., are not Permitted.

g.         Rear roof extensions are not allowed

k.         All Glass must be removed.

L.         Glass cannot be replaced with steel or plastic except for clear Plastic in the side quarter widows.

n.         All doors must be bolted or welded closed.

o.         Rear of car may remain open.

r.              Nosepieces must be mounted in such a manner that the nose of the car appears unaltered and 

"fits" the rest of the cars body.

s.          Headlight Sticker Kit required on after market front nosepieces.

 

            SPOILERS

 

          3.      Rear Spoilers meeting the following criteria are permitted.    

                        a.         Spoilers for rear deck are optional.

b.         Spoiler cannot exceed 8” in height on 3000 Lb Cars.

c.         Spoiler cannot exceed 5” in height on 3250 Lb Cars

d.         Spoiler height will be determined by measuring the front face of the spoiler.

e.         Spoiler must be constructed of flat steel, aluminum or Plexiglas.

f.          It must be free standing or braced from the rear.

g.         The front face of the spoiler must remain flat with no forward curves or bends. 

h.         Spoiler cannot be wider than the width of the rear of car at the attachment point.

I.          Front Bracing, End Braces or Side wings on the ends of spoiler are Not Allowed.

 

OEM CHASSIS (3000 lb Class)

4.                  OEM Chassis meeting the following criteria is permitted with no weight penalty.    

a.       OEM Frame beginning 4” in front of the lower control arms to the center of the rear end housing.

b.      Unibody Chassis’s With OEM Front and Rear Clips are allowed provided the Front and Rear are connected with sub frame connecters on both sides.

                        c.   OEM Chassis with either coil or leaf Suspensions must meet rules 6 thru 29.

 

          NON - OEM CHASSIS

5.         The Following NON-OEM Chassis’s meeting the following criteria will be permitted with a 250 LB Weight Penalty.

a.                   Any Fabricated or Tube type Chassis with an OEM Front Clip, Subject to rule 5E.

b.                  ABSOLUTLY NO Tube type Chassis’s allowed without a front OEM Clip.

c.                   Unibody Chassis Consisting of Stock Front Clip with fabricated Rear Clip.

d.                  All Fabricated or Tube type Chassis with an OEM Front Clip must have square or rectangular main rails.  

e.                   Front clip must consist of an OEM front frame section that begins at least 4” in front of the attachment point of the lower control arm and extends at least 18” past the rear attachment point of the lower control arm.

f.                    All Non-OEM Chassis’s must meets rules 5 thru 29.

 

 

ALL CHASSIS

6.                All cars will be equipped with a front and rear tow hook. These shall be strong enough to support the weight of the car and be easily accessible by track personnel and wrecker crews. 

7.                The minimum wheel base is 101 inches

8.                All ballast weights must be bolted or clamped to chassis. (No tape, wire, hose clamps, or plastic ties allowed).

9.        All Ballast weight must be painted white and stenciled or engraved with your car number or drivers name to identify them with your car.

FRONT SUSPENTIONS

10.      Lower Control arms must be OEM

11.      Front spindles must be made of cast iron

12.      Tubular A- Arms are allowed.

13.      Weight jacks are allowed

14.      Coil Over Shocks are not allowed.

15.      Front Coils must be a minimum of 4 ˝ inches in diameter.

 

REAR SUSPENSIONS

16.      Multi leaf Spring Suspensions.

a.         Leaf Springs must have a minimum of 4 steel leafs

c.             Leaf Springs can have a maximum of 5 steel leafs

d.            Plastic Composite Leafs are permitted.

c.         Leaf Spring Stack must be centered under the main leaf. (three-inch tolerance).

d.         Secondary Leafs must get progressively shorter (At least 20% smaller than the spring above it).

e.         Leaf Springs cannot be wrapped with tape or covered with any other materials.

f.          No Leaf Spring in the stack can be cut or modified

 

17.            Coil Spring Suspensions.

a.                   Coil Spring rear Suspension that includes an OEM 4-link suspension, with stock mounting points, and stock OEM lower trailing arms, OEM upper control arms may be Modified to be adjustable on one end.

b.         Coils Springs must be a minimum of 4˝” in diameter.

c.         Coil Springs must be mounted on top of rear axle housing.

d.         Coil springs must be centered on top of rear end housing.

e.         Coil Over Shocks are not allowed.

           

 

ALL SUSPENSION TYPES

 

18.      Only one shock per wheel is allowed. Shocks do not have to be in stock location.

19.      Mechanical Weight Jacks are allowed.

20.      No Coil – Leaf combinations.

21.      NO Lift bars, or other similar devices are allowed, even if originally equipped with such device. OEM Camaro or Firebird lift bars are Not Allowed

22.      NO hydraulic, ratchet, or electric weight jacking devises allowed anywhere in or on the car.

23.      NO device may be incorporated into the rear suspension that will allow one side or both sides of the rear end housing to rotate freely at it’s attachment point to the suspension.

24.      NO Leaf Spring Sliders allowed!!!!

25.      NO Bird Cages allowed!!!!!!

26.      NO J-Bars allowed!!!!!

27.      NO Coil Over Eliminators allowed!!!!!

28.      One Pull Bar consisting of a single one-piece straight steel or aluminum tube with a Heim Joint on each end. It must be attached to the center of rear end housing and extend forward a maximum of 30” to its attachment point. No rubber biscuits, No shocks or No Springs allowed on pull bar.  

29.      One Panhard Bar consisting of a single one-piece straight steel or aluminum tube with a Heim Joint on each end. This bar must be attached to the frame rail and extend past the 3rd member to its attachment point on the rear end housing. (No Springs, Shocks, or Rubber biscuits allowed on this bar.)  

 

 

 

ENGINE

30.      Block and Heads must be cast iron. Aluminum Intakes, water pumps, pulleys are allowed.

31.      Engine must be centered in frame. (1 inch tolerance)

32.      The number one spark plug hole must be even or ahead of the center of the top ball joint.

33.      1 carburetor maximum, any type, 2 or 4 barrel allowed.

34.      Engine must be self-starting.

35.      Fuel injection, Turbos, Superchargers, or Nitrous Oxide Are Not Allowed.

36.      Mechanical Fuel Pump Required 

 

 

 

BUMPERS FRONT & REAR

37.      Bumpers must be used on both the front and rear of car.

38.      Rear bumpers must mount to rear of chassis. Rear bumpers may be constructed of round or square tubing, and must protect fuel cell.

39.      Front bumper may be no wider than the width of the rear of the car.

40.      Bumpers must be flat across. Bumpers may not be made in any type of pointed configuration. A bumper, which is badly damaged, may be required to be repaired or replaced before car is allowed to compete. 

41.      Front bumpers must be mounted to both frame horns.

42.      Front bumper may be no wider than the width of the front of the car.

43.      No bumper shall have any sharp points or edges that may cut another cars tire.

WEIGHT  & TECH RULES 

44.    OEM Chassis Cars Must Weigh 3000 lbs with driver after race.

45.      NON-OEM Chassis Cars Must Weigh 3250 lbs with driver after race.

46.      All cars must display the proper Weight Class Decal on the upper right corner of the passenger door. The first Decal will be provided Free, replacement Decals will cost $5.00. No car will be allowed on the track without a weight decal.   

47.      Qualifying, All cars Must go directly to scales and Inspection immediately after qualifying.

48.      Heat Races, All transfer positions + 1 Must go directly to scales and Inspection immediately after race.

49.      Conciliation Races, All transfer positions + 1 Must go directly to scales and Inspection immediately after race.

50.      Feature Event, All Race finishers must go directly to scales after race Top 4 finishers must continue directly to tech inspection from the scales.

 51.      Any car failing to make weight or fails to go directly to scales and or any required tech inspection from track will be disqualified.  And will forfeit any and all winning.

 

FUEL

52.      Gasoline Only, any type of racing Gas OK. Absolutely no Alcohol Fuel Allowed (Will Test Fuel) 

53.      Racing fuel cells are required, and must be mounted by at least 2 steel straps, 1˝”wide around entire cell. Fuel cells must be completely enclosed in a steel container. Cell must be mounted behind rear axle and must be protected in rear of axle by roll cage tubing.

54.      Fuel cells are required to have check valves, and bladders are recommended

55.      Electric fuel pumps are not allowed.

 

SHOCKS

56.      Total number of shocks on car is Four (4).

57.      Rebuildable or take-apart shocks are not allowed.

58.      No adjustable Shocks allowed.

 

FRONT & REAR TIRES

59.      Any Brand Racing Tire

60.      Any Compound

61.      Tires will be measured at the outside edges of the tread or the contact patch.

62.      Contact Patch of tire cannot measure less than 8 inches or more than 9 inches

63.      No Street tires will be allowed.

 

WHEELS

64.      FRONT & REAR65.   All wheels must be 8” Steel racing wheels.

66.      Wide Five wheels are allowed with adapter.

67.      Bead locks allowed on any wheel.

68.      1” lug nuts required

69.      No mud plugs, no hub cabs, no wheel covers of any kind.

 

REARENDS

70.      All passenger car or truck type rear ends are allowed. No quick-change devices allowed. Rear end does not have to be of car manufacturer. Posi rear ends are allowed, and locking rear ends are allowed. Floaters are allowed.  Typical Gearing for Muskingum County speedway is 5.43 to 5.67

71.      No Aluminum 3rd Members.

STEERING

72.      Steering may be modified, but driver but must remain on left side of car.

73.      Steering Quickeners are allowed.

74.      No rack and pinion steering allowed.

 

 

INTERIOR

75.      Interior must be completely stripped. All plastic, glass, chrome, and upholstery must be removed.

77.      The driver’s compartment must have front and rear firewalls, as well as a floorboard that is free of any opening or holes. Holes must be patched with metal or aluminum.

78.      Cockpit style driver’s compartments are allowed.

79.      Floor Boards must be constructed from 18 Gauge Steel or a minimum 1/8-inch thick aluminum plate may be used.

 

SAFTEY EQUIPMENT

80.      No Loose objects or weights are allowed in the drivers’ compartment or outside of the body.

81.      All cars must be equipped with the following;  

a.       Racing seat.     

b.      Racing type seat belts, minimum of 3" in width, with lap belts, shoulder belts, and an anti-sub  belt. Factory seat belts are not allowed.

c.       Seat belts must have Manufactures date tag attached. Belts cannot be more than 3 years old. No sales receipt will be recognized. If a car is inspected in Sept. 2002, the seat belts can be dated no earlier than Sept. 1999. 

d.      Fire extinguisher, must be fully charged, and mounted within drivers reach, and cannot be

taped in.

e.        Extinguisher must have a readable gauge that shows amount of charge

82.      All drivers must have and wear during racing event the following.                             

f.        Helmet that meets Snell 95 standards recommended.

g.       Complete one or two-piece fire suit that will cover driver’s upper and lower body, must be flame retardant.

h.       Flame retardant shoes and gloves are required.

TRANSMISSION, CLUTCH, & BELL HOUSING

83.      OEM production type transmissions are allowed. Automatic, 3 and 4 speed types are allowed. Bert and Brenn type transmissions are allowed. No in and out boxes. No button or couplers. Car with motor running and in a still position must be able to engage and move forward, then stop and engage and move backwards.

84.       Transmissions must have a minimum of 1 forward and 1 reverse gear, with a neutral position, and must be able to be shifted by driver.

85.       Steel Blow Proof Bell Housings are required for all cars with manual transmissions that have a clutch    

 in the bell housing.

 

 

BATTERY & KILL SWITCH

86.      Batteries are not allowed in drivers compartment. Batteries must be shielded and securely mounted.

87.      A kill switch is required and must be within an easy reach of the driver and a person standing outside of the car.  

 

DRIVE SHAFT

88.       Drive shafts must be painted white. Drive Shaft loop is required. Loop must be mounted no more

           than 6" back from the ends of the drive shaft.      

BRAKES

89.      Brakes are required on all 4 wheels.

90.      Single Piston OEM Steel Calipers Required.

91.      No Rear Brake Floaters Allowed.

 

 

ROLL CAGES

92.        Must be 1.5" in outside diameter and must have a wall thickness minimum of .095".    All cages must 

be continuous hoops.

93.       Cages must be mounted to frame and attached in at least 4 places. Cage must be completely supported 

and braced. Soldering and brazing is not allowed.

94.        With helmet on, drivers’ head cannot protrude above cage.

95.              Drivers’ sidebars must be parallel with the ground, and located perpendicular to the driver to provided maximum protection for the driver. Cage must not cause difficulty to driver when getting in or out of the car. Minimum of 3 bars of at least 1 1/2" diameter in drivers door, and minimum of 2 bars of at least 1 ˝” diameter in passenger door. All bars are required to be a minimum of .095 thickness. 

ALL RACE CARS ARE SUBJECT TO INSPECTION AT ANY TIME.

ANY CAR FOUND IN VIOLATION OF THESE RULE DURING OR IMMEDITLY AFTER THIS EVENT, WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FROM THIS EVENT AND WILL FORFIT ANY PRIZE MONEY EARNED.

 

ANY CAR FAILING TO GO DIRECTLY TO THE SCALES OR DIRECTY TO ANY REQUIRED INSPECTION AFTER A RACE WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FROM THIS EVENT AND WILL FORFIT ANY PRIZE MONEY EARNED. IF YOU CAN’T REMEMBER, HAVE SOME ONE AT THE RETURN ROAD TO POINT YOU TOWARD THE SCALES AND TECH.

ATTENTION ALL COMPETITORS

At last years race a lot of drivers were disqualified for failing to go directly to a require inspection or to the scales. We recommend that all drivers have someone at the pit return road to point them to the scales and or inspection tent.
